It’s that time of year everyone. The air is turning crisp, a chill is slowly hitting the air, we need a jean jacket in the morning but then are dying by the afternoon, which can only mean one thing. Football season is here. And we are so lucky that our Bears could kick it off on prime television…
In case you missed it, the Bears game was pretty brutal IMO. It wasn’t totally embarrassing, but it was pretty bad. The Bears played the LA Rams, and the final score ended up being 14-34. Andy Dalton started, but Matt Nagy (Bears head coach) put Justin Fields in a few times as well. Kind of a weird move but I like it. Justin Fields threw for his first touchdown pass, so a promising start! But he was only in for five plays which was pretty disappointing. Hopefully we see him starting a bit more because the Red Rifle AKA Andy Dalton did not do too well – his longest pass was for 16 yards. 16 yards = 48 feet. This is a pretty low number. The Rams longest pass was for 67 yards (200 feet). So Andy Dalton threw for 1/4 of that – yikes.
Going forward the Bears need to figure this ish out because I can’t take watching another embarrassing season. The only plus to come out of Sunday night is that the Packers also lost. Actually, everyone in the Bears division lost, so technically, the Bears are tied for first place. Next week the Bears have their home opener against Cincinnati Bengals. Let’s hope for a win.
Over the weekend, the Cubs played the Giants. In case you forgot, my heart was ripped out of my body with Kris Bryant being traded to the Giants, and now I had to relive all these emotions again because the CUBS DID A FULL TRIBUTE TO HIM AND HE CRIED. Honestly, might as well just sucker punch me in the gut. Like really? I just can’t.
Anyhow, the Cubs have been doing ok. A new name to watch out for is Frank Schwindel. On Sept 5, he hit a grand slam, so he seems pretty legit…still no Anthony Rizzo but I’ll take what I can get I guess.
Finally, a bit untraditional for this blog – college football. As if you could not get enough of Sunday football (sarcasm), Saturday’s are now booked up with college football. Literally, football all day, basically starting at 11 AM and going until 11 PM. Shifting this post to the upsets this past week since, no offense Northwestern, but not exactly the interesting football team we are looking for.
FIRST, an upset is when a team that is ranked lower beats a higher seed. Over the weekend, there were some notable upsets, but one of the biggest was Oregon versus Ohio State. Oregon was ranked #12, and Ohio State #3. It is pretty unusual for a home team to lose since they have more fans, more cheering, they are more comfortable in that environment, etc. However, somehow, Oregon pulled off the win. So, if you want to impress someone this week, use the following quote:
“Wow, did you see that Ohio State/Oregon game? I can’t believe Ryan Day let that happen. I wonder how the rest of their season will pan out.”
Thank me later.
Looking ahead, here’s what we’ve got going on:
- Bears play Sunday at noon
- Alabama (ranked #1) plays Florida (ranked #11) at 2:30
- Cubs play everyday through Sunday
Prediction: Wins all around (I have to be optimistic, right?).
